I recently attended the 20th anniversary party for Cowan client and local process control technology manufacturer, D&D Automation Inc. The event was the very embodiment of the culture that has contributed to D&D’s 20 years of success, celebrating the company’s flair for innovation, fun and its employees, clients, suppliers and community. Afterwards, I sat down with D&D’s President Michael McCourt, to discuss how he has built a successful manufacturing company in the Waterloo Region.

That bright future was highlighted at the recent Manufacturing Summit hosted by the Manufacturing Innovation Network.
There is a lot of talk about the challenges the manufacturing industry in Canada has been facing over the last decade and it can be easy to see the overall picture as purely one of doom and gloom. Many say civility has left the workplace. It may be due in part to the impact of pop culture or it may reflect the increased work demands that strain our patience. It creates an unpleasant, unproductive work environment. Researchers link lack of civility to absenteeism, turnover and even workplace violence. By keeping the levels of incivility down, we increase workplace safety.
