What to Blog

Think of your website as a magazine. You cater to a certain niche, and people who are very interested in that subject are your familiar subscribers. They expect certain articles and read it regularly. Now think of your blog as the cover for your magazine. The headlines are about current topics and grab the passers by. If those passers by enjoy what they read, they too will become subscribers/customers.

Blog Topics For Your Business

Many people don’t know where to begin when it comes to blogging about their industry.  The problem being is that you shouldn’t blog about your industry.  Your website represents your industry.  Your blog should be what is happening now.

Why else would Martha Stewart do a special Halloween themed magazine every year?  When you think Martha Stewart, Halloween is not the first thing that pops in your mind. Now if you are having a Halloween party and you see the front cover of her magazine listing all the great recipes and party ideas you will grab that issue.  It’s all about the topic.  If you enjoy that issue chances are you’ll grab her Thanksgiving issue and by Christmas she has you on her subscribers list.

Same goes for your blog.  If you know about something coming up that can be applied to your business, then make it part of your blog.  Last week was May 4 which also is known as STAR WARS DAY (want to know why? Then you have to visit our blog).  That means a lot of people will be online searching that topic that day.  We took that info and incorporated it into a post about signs.  We put it out to the various networks mentioning that we were celebrating STAR WARS DAY on The Sign Depot Blog and the news spread.  Why? Well it was easy for people to use that post to help spread the word.  How many new people just heard the name The Sign Depot for the first time?  Name recognition goes a long way.  What else happened?  They checked out other pages on the website while they were visiting the blog.  So now you have new visitors that are looking around your website and sharing your info.  Sounds like a plan to me!

What have you done on your blog to give it Magazine Cover appeal?
