Toronto Star Article: David Suzuki comments on Conservative plans to scrap wind/solar programs

David Suzuki isn’t often seen getting involved with partisan political discussion, but this time he had to offer a warning on Tory plans to scrap wind and solar initiatives in this Toronto Star Article. Check out what else he has to say on the topic of energy conservation and political policy concerning it, as he takes a walk with Premier Dalton McGuinty.

The article which appears on the Toronto Star site (click here to read the full article) offers some very interesting and relavent insight into the thought’s of Canada’s most well-known environmentalist, the host of the CBC’s Nature of Things, David Suzuki, on the impact a change in power at Queen’s Park may bring, as well as some praise and criticism on the job Premier McGuinty’s Liberals have been doing.

His concerns focus on what he calls the “absolute insanity” of Progressive Conservative leader Tim Hudak’s plans to cancel solar and wind alternative energy initiatives in the event his party takes the October 6 election. Suzuki’s support of the Green Energy Act brought him out for an endorsement of McGuinty’s party in the upcoming election.

McGuinty is also quoted, contesting the Tory view that the initiative is too expensive citing the possibility to further manufacturing excellence in Ontario:

“Just as we’re the number one auto producer in North America, I’ve got this vision for us to be a powerful player in the North American economy. You want wind turbines? Nobody makes them better than we do in Ontario. You want solar panels? We’ve got the expertise, we’ve got the manufacturing capacity.”‘
