General Motors Call For Interest – New Technology and Canadian Supplier Technology Events The Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT), through the Canadian Consulate in Detroit, is working with General Motors and APMA to produce a number of Canadian Supplier Technology Days at its Vehicle Engineering Center in Warren, Michigan in the near future. GM’s Engineering Centre in Oshawa and the Vehicle Engineering Center in Warren are engaged in developing new technologies and are seeking partners in various forms: technology providers, collaborators and developers. The subject areas of interest are broad and while not limited to these areas, may include the following:
- New materials, multi-material systems and joining technologies that improve performance, weight and/or cost
- Vehicle electrification technologies such as power electronics, motors, sensors, advanced batteries, battery auxiliary systems
- Modeling and optimization capability of vehicle systems and sub-systems
- HVAC technologies
- Other opportunities to reduce mass on the vehicle
- New processing approaches with optimized results for material and parts
- Fuel Economy technologies for energy recovery or energy efficiency

NoAE Innovations Competition 2011 The Network of Automotive Excellence (NoAE) has returned for its 5th year with its cross-sector and transnational NoAE Innovations Competition. This is the second year in which Canada has been allowed to participate. The 2011 Competition has been expanded to cover the entire mobility industry, including automotive, aerospace, rail and passenger transport. The Innovations Competition has officially launched as of June 15, 2011, but aspiring contestants still have plenty of time to apply, as the deadline for submitting your application is October 31, 2011. Award winners will be notified on December 10, 2011, and the award ceremony will take place in Düsseldorf, Germany on April 18, 2012.
Invited are entrepreneurs, innovators, institutes, secondary institutions, technology providers, automobile suppliers and companies from other industries, who can offer innovations on the four topic clusters:
1) Powertrain & Electrification
2) Communication & Mobility
3) Materials & Manufacturing
4) Design & Interior

CAHR’s New Career Roadmap Tool The Council for Automotive Human Resources (CAHR) has announced the launch of their new Career Roadmap tool, an innovative online skill assessment system designed to provide an interactive resource for current automotive employees, recent graduates, automotive employers, and educators working in the auto sector. Industry leaders can use this tool to ensure that employees’ skills match the industry’s needs, and maximize their return on investment in training. APMA Annual Golf Tournament – Sept. 21, 2011 APMA’s 21st Annual Golf Tournament is back! On Wednesday, September 21, 2011APMA will be returning to Granite Ridge Golf Club in Milton, Ontario for another exciting round of golfing and networking. Granite Ridge is a 36-hole, 6500-yard course located on the Niagara Escarpment. Opened in 1996, it was designed in a user-friendly manner specifically with playability and tournaments in mind. A ”SCRAMBLE” play format will be used, making this tournament suitable for players ofall skill levels. Introducing the APMA Industry Tracker APMA is now offering a brand new product/service which was introduced at the Annual Conference in Windsor last week, the APMA Industry Tracker. The Industry Tracker is a one-stop online tool that provides automotive industry data and news as well as APMA member corporate profiles, all in one easily navigated location. The tool will display profile information on APMA and its member companies including the products/services they offer and key contact information. The tool will also provide key economic data for Canada along with vehicle sales data and vehicle production data pertaining to NAFTA.
This product is available for free to APMA members, and will be made available to non-members in the near future on a subscription basis.
